School Days
| For the first day of school we decided to go paddle boarding at the lake. |
| Caleb doesn't like the paddle boards. |
| "I love them!" |
| It was a nice morning. |
| Hanging out with Mom. |
They decided to chase a flock of geese. The geese were very unconcerned and only few away at the last minute. |
| First day of school pictures. |
| Caleb thought he needed this fort/throne for his school picture. |
Carter's first day at the middle school. He decided to try taking one class this year. |
| Good luck kid! |
Jayden took tumbling again this year. She worked on a lot of skills but she's excited that she can finally do a back handspring on the trampoline! |
| She also decided to try soccer this year. |
| Go Jayden! |
| Time for a throw in. |
| Go Radioactive Frogs!! |
| Whew! That was a lot of running. |
This girl is related to her parents. Exercise gives us bright red faces. |
| Carter enjoyed going to the games too. |
We didn't end up getting a team picture. This is the closest we got. She enjoyed the season and may do soccer again next fall! |
| Jayden also tried softball. |
| Number 3! |
| Jayden especially enjoyed the innings she got to play catcher. |
| Get that ball! |
| The Red Bandits ended up winning the league! |
Jayden had a blast playing softball, even more than soccer. She'll definitely be playing again! |
| Jayden played violin this year in early morning orchestra. |
| Playing in the Halloween Concert. |
| The boys were not super entertained. |
| Bravo! |
| Playing in the spring Extravaganza! |
Jayden enjoyed playing violin, but she decided she'd had enough for now.
Grammy and Grumpy went to Italy so we decided to learn about Italy and track their travels.
| Ciao! |
| Carter made the Colosseum in Minecraft. |
| He even made it so you can fight opponents in it. |
Caleb wanted to make Cleopatra palace. He didn't do much research. Just made a cool place where any queen would want to live. |
| Jayden made some habitats for her animals. |
We went on a field trip to the Territorial Statehouse in Fillmore. Carter's favorite part was the organ they had upstairs. |
Caleb has been practicing his reading this year. He is getting better every day! |
| Here we played a game where we tried to use the title of our books to make a silly sentence. |
| Here is one of his first learning logs for this year. |
We made a deal with the kids that if they could tread water for 30 minutes without any rests, we would go out for dinner. They did it! |
| Caleb let the big kids do all the work. |
We learned a lot at the library. Where do you file a book about cannibalism? Right next to the etiquette books of course!! |
This kid is always drawing, coloring, or writing! We went through a lot of paper this year! |
Decided to play with shaving cream one day. We were learning about pictographs and decided to make up our own symbols. |
| We did a science experiment to see how food coloring disperses in hot, room temp., or cold water. |
And now that we have all that colored water, we better practice mixing colors. |
| Setting up the ultimate work station. |
The kids were excited went they found this picture in a science book. "It looks just like Grumpy!" |
The younger two played Pokemon Monopoly many times this year. They didn't finish many games though. (We took this picture because it looks like Pikachu is borrowing Raichu's legs) |
| Visiting the only Sequoia in Utah. |
| Wow! It's tall! |
| Look at my stick!!! |
En garde! I will defeat you with your puny little twig. |
| Time to head home. |
When you homeschool, the dress code is a lot looser. And you can bring your backpack everywhere with you. No school stuff in the backpack, just toys and your halloween costume. |
We went to this park for a break and to just enjoy the nice weather. These rocks make great art supplies. |
This art looks like Caleb's favorite snack. Blue-Beary Toast. |
This was the weirdest seedpod we've ever seen. Apparently it's a Screwbean Mesquite. |
After following some animal footprints for a while, they led us to some cool cracked mud. |
| Cool, we can even pick up the pieces. |
| Time to smash them!! |
| Caleb is always open to playdates. |
When we were learning about Africa we made an African shield. Complete with a child-safe spear. |
Caleb enjoys making creations with the Magnatiles and naming them. This one is Circus Train. |
Jayden made some African dishes for us. The Jollof rice was good, but the peanut soup was amazing!! |
| Playing around with forced perspective. |
| I'm so little! |
| Don't eat me! |
| Caleb likes doing spelling on the window. |
| Jayden likes it sometimes too. |
| Learning how to use Canva. |
| Carter's science project included this trick where you can trick someone's brain into reacting to this fake hand getting smashed. |
| We learned how to use the 3D printer at the library this year. |
| Making some spin art. |
| We got a cool cardboard cutter to help us make cardboard creations. |
| Learning how pulley's work. |
| We used an 8 to 1 pulley, so Carter had to walk a long ways to lift Caleb. |
| Look! We can lift Daddy! |
| Cute boy on the computer. |
| We love seeing this kid's drawings. |
| Caleb got some Kiwi Crates. This one was a pinball machine! |
Carter enjoyed his two classes at the middle school (Film and Digital Literacy). He got an Outstanding Student award at the end of the schoolyear for his Digital Literacy class. |
Jayden begged and begged the entire school year to get her own library card. We finally got her one in May. She is very excited! |
Co-op Activities
We did a lot of fun activities this year with our co-op too!
We kicked off the year with some bowling. This was Caleb's only bowl. He bowled one frame and then just sat and watched the rest of the day. He knows what he wants to do. |
| Here goes Jayden.... |
| Yay Jayden!! Strike!! |
| You got this Carter! |
| Strike!!! |
| I did it! |
| Let's try again... |
| What?! No fair! |
| Playing around with a stretchy mirror. |
| Look how tall I am! |
| Sheep's bridge was a lot of fun. |
| Caleb was very content playing in the mud. |
| The big kids were a bit more daring. |
Field trip to the grocery store. They let us watch the cake decorating, but we couldn't lick the frosting. |
Bag beard.
| Practicing a line dance. |
| Performing our line dance for a care facility. |
| For this activity we went to the mall to use the Giving Machines for Christmas. |
Then we all found our way to Barnes & Noble where the kids had a blast! Not sure how the employees felt when they saw 30 kids walk into the store. |
| We performed The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. |
| Good job everyone! |
| Jayden was an animal/statue and Carter was the sound tech. |
This was an olympics day. We didn't get many pictures, but we got this one of a rock, paper, scissors face off to break a tie. |
| Carter and Jayden's teams both medaled. |
| Just playing with our friends. |
| We love our friend Trevor! |
This activity was yearbook day. Again, we didn't get many pictures, but here is one of Caleb signing some books. He comes to mom after and grumbles, "I had to sign three in a row!!" |
| The big kids found a cool spot to hangout. |
Our final activity of the year was a lake day. Dad thought it right to spoil these kids first. |
Kind of funny that our first day of school and our last day of the school year were both at Quail Lake. Not a bad year. |
| What a great year with friends, memories and fun. |
And this was just the school stuff.
See part 2 & 3 for more.
