School Days

For the first day of school we decided to go paddle boarding at the lake.

Caleb doesn't like the paddle boards.

It was a nice morning.

They decided to chase a flock of geese.
The geese were very unconcerned and only few away at the last minute.

He decided to try taking one class this year.

Jayden took tumbling again this year.
She worked on a lot of skills but she's excited that she can finally do a back handspring on the trampoline!

She also decided to try soccer this year.

Whew! That was a lot of running.

Carter enjoyed going to the games too.

We didn't end up getting a team picture. This is the closest we got.
She enjoyed the season and may do soccer again next fall!

Jayden had a blast playing softball, even more than soccer.
She'll definitely be playing again!

Jayden enjoyed playing violin, but she decided she'd had enough for now.

Grammy and Grumpy went to Italy so we decided to learn about Italy and track their travels.

Carter made the Colosseum in Minecraft.

He even made it so you can fight opponents in it.

Caleb wanted to make Cleopatra palace.
He didn't do much research. Just made a cool place where any queen would want to live.

Jayden made some habitats for her animals.

We went on a field trip to the Territorial Statehouse in Fillmore.
Carter's favorite part was the organ they had upstairs.

Caleb has been practicing his reading this year.
He is getting better every day!

Here we played a game where we tried to use the title of our books to make a silly sentence.

We made a deal with the kids that if they could tread water for 30 minutes without any rests,
we would go out for dinner.
They did it!

Caleb let the big kids do all the work.

We learned a lot at the library.

Right next to the etiquette books of course!!

This kid is always drawing, coloring, or writing!
We went through a lot of paper this year!

Decided to play with shaving cream one day.
We were learning about pictographs and decided to make up our own symbols.

We did a science experiment to see how food coloring disperses in hot, room temp., or cold water.

And now that we have all that colored water,
we better practice mixing colors.

The younger two played Pokemon Monopoly many times this year.
They didn't finish many games though.
(We took this picture because it looks like Pikachu is borrowing Raichu's legs)

When you homeschool, the dress code is a lot looser.
And you can bring your backpack everywhere with you.
No school stuff in the backpack, just toys and your halloween costume.

We went to this park for a break and to just enjoy the nice weather.
These rocks make great art supplies.

This art looks like Caleb's favorite snack.

This was the weirdest seedpod we've ever seen.
Apparently it's a Screwbean Mesquite.

After following some animal footprints for a while,
they led us to some cool cracked mud.

Cool, we can even pick up the pieces.

Caleb is always open to playdates.

When we were learning about Africa we made an African shield.
Complete with a child-safe spear.

Caleb enjoys making creations with the Magnatiles and naming them.

Jayden made some African dishes for us.
The Jollof rice was good, but the peanut soup was amazing!!

Carter's science project included this trick where you can trick someone's brain into reacting to this fake hand getting smashed.

We learned how to use the 3D printer at the library this year.

We got a cool cardboard cutter to help us make cardboard creations.

We used an 8 to 1 pulley, so Carter had to walk a long ways to lift Caleb.

Caleb got some Kiwi Crates. This one was a pinball machine!

Carter enjoyed his two classes at the middle school (Film and Digital Literacy).
He got an Outstanding Student award at the end of the schoolyear for his Digital Literacy class.

Jayden begged and begged the entire school year to get her own library card.
We finally got her one in May.
She is very excited!

Co-op Activities

We did a lot of fun activities this year with our co-op too!

We kicked off the year with some bowling.
This was Caleb's only bowl. He bowled one frame and then just sat and watched the rest of the day.
He knows what he wants to do.

Then we all found our way to Barnes & Noble where the kids had a blast!
Not sure how the employees felt when they saw 30 kids walk into the store.

We performed The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

Jayden was an animal/statue and Carter was the sound tech.

This was an olympics day. We didn't get many pictures, but we got this one of
a rock, paper, scissors face off to break a tie.

Carter and Jayden's teams both medaled.
